Rukun Negara is Malaysia's national ideology . It was formed on 31 August 1970 by the National Operations Council one year after the tragedy of May 13, 1969 that destroyed the unity and peace of the country.

BELIEF IN GOD :
Nation was created on a strong belief in God. Through proper religious belief would make the nation and the country as a sovereign nation . Federal Constitution provides that Islam is the official religion , but religion and other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation and measures discriminate against any citizen on grounds of religion is prohibited. Committee rukunegara makers realize the importance of religion and belief in God in human life . The absence of religion may undermine the personality of a person and also a nation . Recognising the importance of strengthening the holding members of the public against the teachings of their respective religions , this principle has been chosen as the first principle of the Rukun Negara .
LOYALTY TO KING & COUNTRY :
Malaysia practices a system of parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy with His Majesty the Yang di - Pertuan Agong as the Head of State. In line with the position of the Yang di- Pertuan Agong as the King in accordance with the Constitution , the monarchy also practiced in every country , and the President of the State for states that are not monarchies . His Majesty , Rulers and Yang Di -Pertuan Negeri is a symbol of unity. Loyalty to King and Country means that every citizen shall devote the whole of loyalty , honesty and sincerity to His Majesty the Yang di - Pertuan Agong . At the state level , people are required to devote loyalty to the king who ruled the land where they reside without sacrificing loyalty to the Yang di - Pertuan Agong .
SUPREMACY OF THE CONSTITUTION :
This principle emphasizes the need for people to accept , obey and defend the Constitution of the nobility or glory . Constitution is the highest source of legislation . Its function is to provide protection to every citizen of this country their rights and privileges as citizens. Every citizen of Malaysia are required to respect , appreciate , and understand the meaning and content as well as the historical background of the formation of the Constitution. The Constitution was drafted on the basis of consensus of all races and all parties in the country. Thus it is a social contract that people can not be questioned and contested by any individual or any party . Constitution determines the political and socio-economic status of the people in this country . It is the reference point for all matters relating to the system of government , legislative , state and socio- economic rights of citizens.
THE RULE OF LAW :
Justice is founded on the rule of law in which all citizens equal before the law in the country legally . Fundamental freedoms guaranteed to all citizens . National law based on the Constitution . Thus sovereignty should be accepted and maintained. Without law , society and state life is not safe and stable . By the laws of the country are also guaranteed by the judiciary independent and authoritative . Every country needs a law to control and create a society that is peaceful, stable and prosperous . The existence of the law will guarantee the life of the community members can move smoothly and orderly without any disturbances, in which all members of the public will feel safe . The rights of all citizens can be practiced freely as long as it does not violate the law as well as things as guaranteed by the Constitution.
MUTUAL RESPECT AND GOOD SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR :
These five principles to emphasize the development of the personality and behavior of the people. The goal is to form citizens who mannered and good morals campaign in line with Courtesy and Noble Values are ongoing now. The nature of the individual mannered and good morals are the most significant and very important in the context of relations with each other in various communities in the country. Courtesy and morals should be practiced to form an individual and community discipline and high moral values that will help create a harmonious society. Decency is hated and condemned the behavior or act arrogant or offend a person or a group. Polite behavior also contains a high degree of morality in both private life and the life of the state. These principles serve as a guide to the behavior of society is preserved and developed in accordance with the personality and values.
